Watermelon Punch

1 c Sugar

1 c Water

1/2 sm Evenly-shaped watermelon

1/4 c Brandy

1 cn (12 oz) lemon-lime soda

Ice cubes 1 ts Shelled pine nuts

In a saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil; cool. Scoop watermelon with a melon baller; discard seeds. Pour sugar syrup over watermelon balls. Scoop remaining watermelon; squeeze in a clean cloth to extract juice. Combine watermelon balls, watermelon juice, and brandy; chill. Cut the upper edge of the watermelon shell in a saw-tooth design and use as a punch bowl. Just before serving, add watermelon mixture, soda, and ice cubes to watermelon shell. Sprinkle with nuts. Makes 10 to 12 servings. 2 1/2 c Watermelon

1/2 c -Crushed ice

——————————–FOR GARNISH——————————– Rose geranium leaves; opt Seed, and coarsely chop the watermelon in a bowl, and save all the juices. Drop into a blender with crushed ice. Blend until crushed. Pour into 2 tall glasses. Garnish with rose geranium leaves, if you wish and serve immediately with long spoons. California Winery Hit By High-End Wine Scam

Felony criminal complaints have been filed against three men for allegedly embezzling nearly $200,000 worth of high-end Bordeaux-style wines produced by Jackson Family Wines.

Authorities say Jordan Crass, of Santa Rosa, was the ringleader who schemed to sell $150-a-bottle wines for the bargain price of $60.

An internal investigation by the winery revealed that unreleased 2004 vintage wines were being made available on the Internet at prices substantially below retail prices.

A search warrant affidavit alleges that Crass created false “lost” wine shipments so the wine could be sent out without being tied to an order by a customer. Read more

Altria Spinning Off International Tobacco Business

Altria Group said Wednesday it would spin off its international tobacco business on March 28, freeing it to pursue cigarette sales more aggressively outside the U.S. by separating it from its American counterpart.

The two tobacco units each make Marlboros, one of the world’s top-selling cigarette brands.

Lausanne, Switzerland-based Philip Morris International has said that it would rank as the biggest non-governmental cigarette maker in the world, behind the state-owned China National Tobacco. PMI makes Marlboros, L&M and Bond Street cigarettes, while Philip Morris USA makes the Marlboro, Virginia Slims, Parliament and Basic brands for U.S. consumers. Read more
